Pablo Poulain Work and Photography

I’m Pablo Poulain — geologist by training, self-taught photographer by passion.
My eye is drawn to fleeting moments: scenes from the street, quiet landscapes, live music, and subtle details that often go unnoticed.
Inspired by Japan, natural light, travels, and calm atmospheres, I use photography to immerse myself in the present and translate emotion into image.
I mainly shoot with a Fujifilm X-T5 or X-T30, and I edit lightly — either in Lightroom or straight-out-of-camera (SOOC).

In parallel with photography, my background is rooted in science.
I hold a PhD in Geosciences from Université Paris Cité, completed in collaboration with the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris and the French Geological Survey.
My research focuses on natural hazards — from underwater landslides to tsunamis — with a strong emphasis on numerical modelling, probabilistic forecasting, and risk communication. I’ve worked with tools like HySEA and FUNWAVE-TVD, and collaborated with scientists and institutions during the Mayotte volcanic crisis.
Whether in the field, behind a screen, or in a meeting room, I navigate between geophysics, fluid dynamics, and real-world risk management. This dual path — between science and image-making — shapes the way I see the world: through layers, uncertainty, and quiet attention to change.
